First Baptist Church came about as a result of the burden and vision of several people.

In 1951, Dr. Julian Pope felt a calling to establish a church in the nation’s Capital. In 1952, Dr. Pope traveled to Washington and laid the groundwork for the new church. District Heights Baptist Church, then called First Baptist Church and now First Baptist Church of District Heights, was established and organized on July 9, 1952.

The first meeting was held in the home of James Barland in South East Washington (Now Capital Heights) with 12 members present. Sunday school and Morning Worship were held at a Fire Station at 7100 Marlboro Pike with some classes housed across the street at the fire station.

The Parsonage was first built due to financial reasons and the present structure was constructed in March 1973. Pastor Randy Cloud led the construction of the present structure First Baptist Church is recognized today as the mother Church of each New Testament church fellowship in the MABA.

This is a result of a church with a vision seeking the leadership of the Holy Spirit in her path of service.
